Coming and Going- Sonnet (by Fenny West)

Coming and going just searching for you
love is the greatest giving glory5 love never ends love is the greatest love love1 cor13

Coming and going just searching for you

Ravished then famished, taken breath away

I went to heaven and then hell for you

Why summer and winter on the same day?

My joy, my jewel, you’re my reason for being

Your smile is the sun that will dry my tears

Come take my arms, I will give anything

Why do you run? What, my love are your fears?

A new leaf I will turn, eyes just for you

A new song I will sing, ’Just two of us’

O, come home, come home, I badly need you

Without you, I will be at a great loss

Come into my fold, O love that’s gone cold.

Truly, to me, you will ever be gold.

The apple of my eyes, that’s what you are -Sonnet ( by Fenny West)

 love is the greatest

The apple of my eyes, that’s what you are.

My treasured one, the best bird I can have.

Ruined and marred by the fall that kept you far.

Yet, I longed daily for you, my first love.

Wondering and pondering which day you will come.

Waiting and looking for my broken dream

To come into my garden and bosom.

I looked here and there even in the stream.

Prepared a sumptuous meal for you and I.

But there, vacant remained your seat and place.

Gone for so long, I kept asking, ‘Why, Why?’

When will you return and show me your face.

No one, nothing! can take your place, beloved.

For you, any mountain I would have moved.

Spell broken: It shall be for you too and for me too.

Sometimes when you have been in an arid land, cul de sac or wilderness for so long, it seems over for you, more so when you are old. Some people would have written you off, saying ‘You have past your sell-by date. Get real. give up. But so long as you have not written yourself off you can defy your and bounce back even at old age. Your spell can be broken. Just look to Jesus – the Author and finisher of your faith. It is not over until He says so.

Your spell shall be broken as it was broken for Barbara. This is not limited to your relationships. It could be in your finances or health or ministry. Hang in there! against all hope believe in Hope and keep giving glory until your change comes like Abraham and job.

10 And the LORD restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

11 Then all his brothers, all his sisters, and all those who had been his acquaintances before, came to him and ate food with him in his house; and they consoled him and comforted him for all the adversity that the LORD had brought upon him. Each one gave him a piece of silver and each a ring of gold.

12 Now the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys.

13 He also had seven sons and three daughters.

14 And he called the name of the first Jemimah, the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-Happuch.

15 In all the land were found no women so beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.

16 After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations.

17 So Job died, old and full of days. Job42:10-17

John 5: A Man Healed at the Pool of Bethesda

1 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.

3 In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water.

4 For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.

5 Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years.

6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”

7 The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.”

18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”

19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.

20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

Rom4

Genesis 21: Isaac Is Born

1 And the LORD visited Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had spoken.

2 For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

3 And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him — whom Sarah bore to him — Isaac.

4 Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

5 Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

6 And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me.”

7 She also said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”

9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath.

Joseph’s Rise to Power

37 So the advice was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.

38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?”

39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.

40 You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.”

41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”

42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck.

43 And he had him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, “Bow the knee!” So he set him over all the land of Egypt.

44 Pharaoh also said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.”

Gen41

13 You will arise and have mercy on Zion; For the time to favor her, Yes, the set time, has come. Ps102:13

It was hopeless for Hannah, Elizabeth , Rachel and Rebekah, Manaoh and his wife but God remembered them. God will remember you too! it was hopeless for Jabez but God turned his table around for good. God will turn your table too. Call on Him. Trust in Him. Hope in the God of Hope. The God who made Barabara smile at 70 will make you smile too. The God who gave laughter (Isaac) to Abraham and Sarah when it seemed hopeless will give you laughter too.

You are Not Too Old To Dream

You’re Not Too Old to Dream

dream

He posed as a virtuoso guitarist in a performance. The trouble was that whilst the right hand was strumming away, the left hand which traditionally should be moving from one fret to the other, finding the right chord, was just static. And so the music was anything but music. Yet he came away congratulating himself whilst his audience thought, ’good riddance!’

Someone in the audience however approached him to find out why his left hand was stuck in one place unlike his contemporaries. His reply was, ‘Others are still looking for it, but I have found it.’

Yes, by the age of 50 and even above, many say you should have peaked, found your dream and fulfilled your dream and getting ready to retire and enjoy life. This is not always the case. There are many who at 50 and beyond are yet to find their purpose in life but are not ashamed to admit it and still yearning to find it. They believe they are not too old to dream.  They may have had jobs but not careers or careers but not  a calling and so they will not rest until they have entered their Promised Land. They may have been getting up in the morning and reluctantly going to a job they hate and were only tolerating  it because it put food on the table and paid the bills. But they know deep down they are like a fish out of water.

Some have been threatened with redundancy and they see it as an opportunity to explore the alternative- what has been nagging within for so long: ‘Get out of your comfort zone and be what you were born for. Get out of the boat and step on water if you want to walk on water.’ They have finally taken the plunge and enrolled on a course: ‘Preparing to start your Own Business.’

I met with these rare breeds recently, who will not give up on their dreams despite their age. They were prepared to have a plunge in the River of Business. They were prepared to have a go at the Business Race without fear of failure despite the discouraging statistic that many fail than survive.

Encouragingly the statistics also show that more businesses started by older people survive than those started by younger people. Why is this? Older people have experience on their side. They have weathered the storms of life and take risks that have been well-considered. They most likely have more skills than the young and are wise enough to see opportunities from afar and grab them with both hands.

These are rare breeds because they have refused to succumb to societal assumption that it is over for them. They have not allowed the failures of the past to condition them into thinking that they are too old to dream. Whereas it is good to discover your dream early and pursue it with the vim and vigour of your youthful exuberance and apply your best years to that vision, the truth is that not many of us discover our reason for being at an early age. The important thing is that we need not give up because we are forty or fifty or even sixty and still have not found it. So long as you have not given up on yourself, you will find it. You will find it if you humble yourself and not deceive yourself into thinking you have arrived, when you know deep within you that you have not.

Everyone of us has a promised land- a land flowing with milk and honey; a place where you are fulfilled despite challenges. In fact, the challenges of that land fuel you with the adrenalin that keeps you going. You may be waking up early in the morning and going to bed late at night, because you know you are where you should be.  You may not be paid much; you may even be doing it for free, but you are fulfilled because you are making an impact that gives you joy unspeakable and full of glory.

So do not settle for less than what God has ordained for you. Take the bull by the horn and go for gold. You are not too old to dream. You were made in the image of God and He has put within you the ability to dream and dream big. Regardless of your past experiences, do not let them limit you. Rather, use all your experiences to work for you. Use them as a stepping stone to a higher ground. God uses the negatives – the dark clouds, the disappointments, the failures- with the good times and weaves a magnificent tapestry, if we would put them in His hands and trust Him and work with Him.

Unlike the guitarist who has found it, you may still be looking for it, but you too will also find it one day and be established in your land and be able to say, ‘I have found it too!’

I remember sitting in a class of trainee-teachers where I was one of the oldest. I refused to let that bother me. That was many years ago. And now sit in another class of over 50s who want to start their own business and I believe I am one of the oldest. But once again, it does not matter, because I have not given up hope. I still believe that I will find what I am made for. I will find my Promised Land, where I will be fulfilled and where I will live and leave and indelible mark for all time. I may start late but better late than never. I refuse to settle for less than what the Most High has endowed me for, planned for me and wired me for. He is for me and no one can be against me. His will and purpose for my life shall come to pass. I choose to take side with Him – not my circumstances, not what people say or think. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I am more than a conqueror through Him. Eye has not seen ear has not heard, neither has it entered the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love Him (1Cor2:9, Phil4:13, Rom8:31, 37). I refuse every grasshopper mentality; I debunk every frog ceiling mentality limitation and go for gold to the glory of God. (Num13:33)

Someone said, ” Live before you die.” But I say, ‘You cannot live before you die until you have found your dream and lived it.’

Who says you are too old to dream?

Who says you’re too old to dream?

Dreams are not negotiable;

They are not debatable

You have to seize them;

Take the bull by the horn!

And be what you were called to be.

Dream Big!

If your dream does not frighten you

It is not big enough.

If your dream does not go

beyond you, it is too small.

Go back to the drawing board.

Live Before You Die

Live before you die

Looking to the Most High

Who created you

and packaged you.

He has made you to live

An abundant life

One of purpose and passion

One that will bring adoration.

In your jar of clay is gold-

Gold that is yet untold.

This gold, God wants to unfold

Whether you‘re young or old.

 sandy concert

But you have to yield

Agree to till your field

Until you uncover-

The gem discover.

Live before you die

Let life not pass you by.

Be a blessing to your world

Engage with your world.

Release yourself

Give of your self

Live for others

We need each other.

“Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Friends to be Cherished (by Fenny West)

They were friends in need and indeed

Lord, Help Us

When marriage goes sour

and children caught in the slur

in between, in the crossfire

Lord, help us find a middle ground

That is acceptable and sound.

When sweet hearts squabble

And refuse to fondle or cuddle

But hurl stones at each other

Lord, help us find a middle ground

That is acceptable and sound.

When love turns into hate

And lovers no longer soul mates

When the marital bed become nails

Lord, help us find a middle ground

That is acceptable and sound.

When the aroma of love

Turns into a stench that drives

When darlings turn into hyenas

Lord, help us find a middle ground

That is acceptable and sound.

When the love nest turns a beehive

and the palace becomes a prison

and children become ping pongs

Lord, help us find a middle ground

That is acceptable and sound.

4     Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;

5     does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;

6     does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;

7     bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8     Love never fails.1Cor13:4-6

2     with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,

3     endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 26     “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath,

27   nor give place to the devil. 29         Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

30   And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31   Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.

32   And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Eph4:2-3,26-27,29-32
