Running the Business Race

As you and I embark on the road to fulfilling our dream, vision and assignment, we have good intensions. We are motivated to go for it. We need to continue to press on and not lose momentum and fall by the wayside. Life is full of unfinished business and projects; life is littered with a clutter of abandoned dreams that were shelved because there was a roadblock, a barrier or problem. That was why we needed to write down our vision so we could see it to give us focus; that was why we needed to have a business plan to discipline us to look closely at our vision to put some flesh on the bones.

Life is not a dress rehearsal. This is the real deal. We only get one chance! There is no reincarnation. Once you finish, you finish. You are not coming back. This is it! So go with it with a sense of destiny. Run according to the rules so you don’t end like Lance Armstrong or Jimmy Saville. You are made to win. Let your dream be big- bigger than you. Let it be more than bettering your life but to make a difference to humanity.  Leave a mark that is indelible, irrefutable, distinguished, incredible,

We are like athletes preparing to run a race. We need to train very hard, discipline ourselves, yield to the instruction and grooming of our coaches- our mentors. These are people who have gone where we have not been.

There will be challenges our journey. Let us be brave, courageous, bold at such times and not buckle under the pressure. Challenges can create untold chances. Challenges will stretch us and bring us into new threshold of strength unknown to us. Let us keep our heads down and humble ourselves to learn from those who have been established in their business.

Our business plan and vision statement are tools to help us focus on our dreams and avoid being sidetracked or shipwrecked.

We want, not just to start, but to finish and finish strong, not hobble up to the finishing line. We need to know how to pace ourselves so that we don’t run out of steam.

Let us help each other because we need each other. We need to see beyond the natural and see a grand stand of those who have finished and gone, cheering us up: ‘Go on, finish up, you can make it. We made it, so can you.’

Let us cultivate good habits that will move us forward, not backward. Let’s discipline ourselves, review our goals, vision and skills and think productively and positively. ’As he thinks, so he is.’

Let’s submit ourselves to a process of development. Being a champion takes time. It’s a process.

We have entered the ‘School of Hard Knocks’.  It’s not an easy road. Let us make up our minds to make it, despite the obstacles we will face. This preparation time is crucial to our survival and will determine whether we struggles, strive, or thrive.

In any race, a good start is very important. A false start can ruin your chances of winning. It can lead to your disqualification. It can give an edge to your opponent or fellow competitors. No matter what your dream is, you have competitors. I do too. What will make you stand out is your ability to let your uniqueness make you different. Do not start out to be a photo –copy of someone else, it’s taken. Be yourself!

Have the right gear in your race, the right tools so you’re not slowed down. Those who are well-prepared will seize any opportunity that presents itself. You don’t start preparing when the opportunity comes. It’s too late then.

Run in the right lane and in the right direction. Run with integrity. Run straight. Above all, run the right race. Do not run a race that your friend is running and making lots of money. Run a race that you are called and wired to run. That is where you will have fulfilment. Provision is in the vision.

Confront your weaknesses. Identify them and do something about them. Work on them.

Identify your strengths too and use them to move you forward. Have an honest appraisal. Don’t blow your top. Seek help where you need help. Have your priorities right. Don’t run before you can walk. Start small and build up gradually.

Know that there will be moments of disappointment. Things will not fall into your lap always. The bank may disappoint you. Your suppliers may disappoint you. Your customers may not pay on time. You will need to be prepared for such eventualities. You need to know how to handle such situations.  Cash-flow problem would stare you in the face from time to time. You need to know how to take a determined stance to avoid keeling over the precipice like the fiscal cliff that America faced. You do not passively accept everything that comes your way as “What will be will be.”. You may need to confront your enemy. Sadly, often the enemy is in us, Ene-My, INI ME’- the bad habits, pride, lack of organisation, carelessness etc.

We must learn to deny ourselves especially in the early years. Most businesses pack up in the early years because the owners were not willing to make sacrifices. Delay your gratification. Do not eat your investment fund.  Don’t look for a big car soon after you start or even premises. You can start in your house until things get better. Do not start hiring people to please the government because they gave you a loan. Know the implications of hiring people. Hire people when you are ready as not to go under. Hire the right people who have a similar vision, or who understand your vision and would add value to it, not people who just want a job to earn money.

Dead Dreams Shall Live!

Dead Dreams Shall Live!

Dead Dreams Must Live
Not because I say so
But because Jesus says so
Because He is the Resurrection and the Life
He died and rose to give my dead dream life
There is no situation that is hopeless with Him
With God all things, yes, ALL things are possible
Lazarus was dead for four days and now stank
Jesus Christ of Nazareth, arrived on the scene
An turned the hopeless situation around
Roll away the stone!
Lazarus, come forth!
And Lazarus came forth.
And even when he had risen
the grave clothes contained him
Jesus then gave the command,
‘Loose him and let him go!’
He was loosed, set free
Completely, unfettered.
By the resurrection power
By the anointing that breaks yokes
By the power of the Holy Ghost
And because Jesus Christ remains
the same, Yesterday, Today and Forever
My dead dreams today will live!
He triumphed over death and Hades
He has the final say concerning my dreams.
Because He lives, I will not die but live
To declare the works of the Lord.
Because He lives, my dreams will live.
Joseph had a dream and they hated him for it.

They threw him into the pit sold him into slavery.
He ended up in Potiphar’s house as a servant.
Then he was tempted and despite passing the test,
He was maligned and thrown into the dungeon.

His dream was dead, as it were, but he trusted God,
And kept on interpreting dreams for others.
And in the fullness of time, God remembered Joseph.
He was raised from the dungeon to become the
The key man, the Prime Minister of Egypt
His dead dream was raised from the dead.
Glory be to God who raises dead dreams.
The woman in Shunem had a Son at the set time
According to the word of the Prophet, Elisha.
But one day the boy sneezed and died
Her husband was old, and this was her
Only son, her dream, the Apple of her eyes
She immediately saddled a donkey
And headed for the village of the prophet
The prophet saw her from afar and knew there
Was a problem but he could not tell what it was.
She would not let go of him until he followed her back.
He arrive her home to find the dead dream- the boy.
He agonised in prayer and the boy came alive!
Ha! Dead dream must come alive, in Jesus’ Name.
The widow of Nain had only one son, who died.
Jesus met the burial procession and was compassionate. ‘Put the Casket down,’ He told them, and raised the boy. There was celebraton and jubilation all over that village
The woman with the issue of blood was dead but walking
All her hopes dashed as her condition grew worse.
But Jesus came into town and she dared to believe
In the resurrection of her hopes for total deliverance.
Despite the throng of people that discouraged her
She refused to yield but pressed through to touch Jesus.
And with the touch of faith the blood issue dried up.
Her dead dream was raised from the dead, Glory!
For thirty eight years he waited and waited and waited
At the pool of Bethesda, hoping to have a chance
To get first into the pool when the angel stirred the water.
But he was disappointed again and again. His dream died.
Then Jesus showed up one day and raised his dream.
Ezekiel was in the Valley of dry bones surrounded by deadness.

Then God asked him, Son of man, shall these bones live?

Ezekiel was smart and answered, ‘Lord, Thou knowest.’
God commanded him to prophesy to the bones to come to their bones. He prophesied for flesh, sinews and muscle to come on the bones. All these happened just like he prophesied,
but their was no life in the bodies. God commanded him to prophesy to the four winds. He did and breath came into the dead bodies and there arose a mighty army,
to the Glory of God. Dead dream lived.
The God who did all these remains the same.
He said ,’I am the Lord, I change not.’
‘Behold I am the Lord God of all flesh
Is there anything too hard for me?’
Jesus said, ‘Behold, I am He that was dead.
But now I am alive and alive forevermore.’
He said I am the resurrection and the life.
He who believes in me though he was dead
Yet shall he live;

so my dead dream will live!
So is your dream dead?
Has your vision vanished?
Even though you have believed
In the Resurrection and the Life?
Bring it to Jesus. Tell Him how it is.
Believe that He is compassionate.
Believe that He has the power.
Reach out and touch Him
With the touch of faith.
And your dream will live!
Say this with me:
My dream will live
Because Jesus is alive!
He is the resurrection and the life.
My God is able to do exceeding
Abundantly, more than I can ask or dream
For eye has not seen, ear has not heard
neither has it entered the heart of man
What God has in store for those who love Him.

The Resurrection
1On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7’The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8Then they remembered his words.
9When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

John 11:16-18 (New International Version)
16Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”
Jesus Comforts the Sisters
17On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. 18Bethany was less than two miles[a] from Jerusalem,

37But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?”
Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead
38Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. 39″Take away the stone,” he said.
“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”

John 11:42-44 (New International Version)
42I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”
43When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.
Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”
John11:17,18,37-39,42-44

Joseph
23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe—the richly ornamented robe he was wearing- 24 and they took him and threw him into the cistern. Now the cistern was empty; there was no water in it.
28 So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels [b] of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.
16 She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home. 17 Then she told him this story: “That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me. 18 But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
19 When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. 20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.

Joseph in Charge of Egypt
41 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.” 42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. 43 He had him ride in a chariot as his second-in-command, [c] and men shouted before him, “Make way [d] !” Thus he put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt.
44 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, but without your word no one will lift hand or foot in all Egypt.” 45 Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-Paneah and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, [e] to be his wife. And Joseph went throughout the land of Egypt. Gen41

The Shunammite’s Son Restored to Life
8 One day Elisha went to Shunem. And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat. 9 She said to her husband, “I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God. 10 Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.”
11 One day when Elisha came, he went up to his room and lay down there. 12 He said to his servant Gehazi, “Call the Shunammite.” So he called her, and she stood before him. 13 Elisha said to him, “Tell her, ‘You have gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?’ ”
She replied, “I have a home among my own people.”
14 “What can be done for her?” Elisha asked.
Gehazi said, “Well, she has no son and her husband is old.”
15 Then Elisha said, “Call her.” So he called her, and she stood in the doorway. 16 “About this time next year,” Elisha said, “you will hold a son in your arms.”
“No, my lord,” she objected. “Don’t mislead your servant, O man of God!”
17 But the woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had told her.
18 The child grew, and one day he went out to his father, who was with the reapers. 19 “My head! My head!” he said to his father.
His father told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 After the servant had lifted him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died. 21 She went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, then shut the door and went out.
22 She called her husband and said, “Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return.”
23 “Why go to him today?” he asked. “It’s not the New Moon or the Sabbath.”
“It’s all right,” she said.
24 She saddled the donkey and said to her servant, “Lead on; don’t slow down for me unless I tell you.” 25 So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.
When he saw her in the distance, the man of God said to his servant Gehazi, “Look! There’s the Shunammite! 26 Run to meet her and ask her, ‘Are you all right? Is your husband all right? Is your child all right?’ ”
“Everything is all right,” she said.
27 When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she took hold of his feet. Gehazi came over to push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone! She is in bitter distress, but the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me why.”
28 “Did I ask you for a son, my lord?” she said. “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t raise my hopes’?”
29 Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tuck your cloak into your belt, take my staff in your hand and run. If you meet anyone, do not greet him, and if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff on the boy’s face.”
30 But the child’s mother said, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So he got up and followed her.
31 Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or response. So Gehazi went back to meet Elisha and told him, “The boy has not awakened.”
32 When Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his couch. 33 He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed to the LORD. 34 Then he got on the bed and lay upon the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched himself out upon him, the boy’s body grew warm. 35 Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out upon him once more. The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.
36 Elisha summoned Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite.” And he did. When she came, he said, “Take your son.” 37 She came in, fell at his feet and bowed to the ground. Then she took her son and went out.
2Kings 4:8-36
Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son
11Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. Luke 7:11-12
The Valley of Dry Bones
1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
I said, “O Sovereign LORD, you alone know.”
4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! 5 This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath [a] enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’ ”
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’ ” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army. Ezek 37:1-10
17When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. Rev1:17-18

ARE YOU STRESSED OUT ABOUT MONEY? (1)

ARE YOU STRESSED OUT ABOUT MONEY? (1)

‘…It is [God] who gives you the ability to produce wealth…’ Deuteronomy 8:18

The story of Elijah being fed by the ravens teaches us that God can take care of us in a bad economy (1 Kings 17:1-7). The story of Joseph teaches us that when we follow God’s plan, we will have all that we need to get us through hard times (Genesis 41:37-57). One of the dangers of living in a materialistic society is that you feel ‘entitled’ to things, even when you can’t afford them. To overcome financial anxiety you must practise fiscal discipline. God doesn’t bless recklessness. You can’t go into debt, then pray that God will get you out of it. Sometimes He does. But if you don’t learn from your mistakes you’ll just keep repeating them. A popular radio show in Atlanta, USA is hosted by a man called Clark Howard. He begins every programme by saying, ‘Spend less, save more, and don’t get ripped off.’ He talks about banks that charge extortionate rates for credit cards, and tells people to live within their means. ‘But I’m used to a certain lifestyle,’ you say. Get unused to it! If you want peace of mind, learn the art of contentment. Does contentment mean you can’t have ambition? No, it means delaying gratification and enjoying where you are, on your way to where you’re going. It means learning to live by these words: ‘I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength’ (Philippians 4:12-13 NLT).

The Key to Prosperity (By Fenny West)

The Key to Prosperity

The key to prosperity.

Is to trust the Almighty

Lean not on your own understanding

Or carnal understanding,

But on the Spirit of God,

To illuminate the Word,

Give you spiritual insight,

That will lift you to new heights;

Beyond the natural plane;

Beyond the temporal plane;

To the supernatural;

To that which is eternal.

Trust is the Key to prosperity

Obedience   and willingness bring prosperity and longevity- lasting legacy.

 5     Trust in the LORD with all your   heart, And lean not on your own understanding;

6     In all your ways   acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

7     Do not be wise in   your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.Prov3:5-7

25   He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the LORD will be prospered.

Prov28:25

God teaches us how to make profit

‘…I am the Lord…who teaches you to profit…’ Isaiah 48:17

12   Then Isaac sowed in   that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him.

13        The man began to prosper, and   continued prospering until he became very prosperous;

19   If you are willing   and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land.

Isa1:19

18   “And you shall   remember the LORD your God, for it   is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His   covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.Duet8:18

Confessing and acting on bring prosperity

8     This Book of the   Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and   night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For   then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.Josh1:8

27   Let them shout for joy and be glad, Who favor my   righteous cause; And let them say continually, ” Let the LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His   servant.”Ps35:27

2     Beloved, I pray   that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul   prospers.

3John1:2

11   If they obey and serve Him, They shall spend   their days in prosperity, And their years in pleasures.

Job36:11

6     God sets the solitary in families; He   brings out those who are bound into prosperity; But the rebellious dwell in a   dry land. Ps68:6

If you have suffered adversity, know that   it is a stepping stone to prosperity. Your change is coming.

In the day of prosperity be joyful, But   in the day of adversity consider: Surely God has appointed the one as well as   the other, So that man can find out nothing that will come after him.

Eccle7:14

When   fools prosper it digs their grave because it goes into their heads.

For the turning away of the simple shall slay   them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

Prov.1:32

The Presence of God brings prosperity

2     The LORD was with Joseph,   and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the   Egyptian.

3     And his master saw   that the LORD was with   him and that the LORD made all he did to   prosper in his hand.

Gen39:2-3

7     The LORD was with him; he prospered wherever he went. And he   rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him.2Ki.18:7

Jesus   came to give us super abundant life; to influence our world, make indelible   impact on our community and our nation and the whole world. We are His  ambassadors, His royal priesthood, His Hands and Feet on the earth.

10        The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to   destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it   more abundantly. John10:10

30        This same Hezekiah also   stopped the water outlet of Upper Gihon, and brought the water by tunnel to   the west side of the City of David. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.2Chro32:30

It is not just what you give that   matters but your attitude in giving maters. Give cheerfully, hopefully and   generously.

38   Give, and   it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and   running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you   use, it will be measured back to you.”

Luke6:38

The Cheerful Giver

6     But this I say:   He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully   will also reap bountifully.

7     So let each one give   as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a   cheerful giver.

8     And God is   able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all   sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

9     As it is written: ” He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.”

10   Now may He who   supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed   you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness,

11   while you are   enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through   us to God.

2Cor9:6-11

9     For you know the   grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes   He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

2Cor8:9

Fiscal Discipline Will Win ( By Fenny West)

Fiscal Discipline
Will help you to win
During adverse winds.
So, don’t sow whirlwind.
Learning contentment
Will bring enjoyment.

Never eat your seed
Else you’ll be in need
Always put God first
You won’t be the last.
Make the best of the rest.
That’s how you’re blest.

Contain your impulse
Shun feel-good that’s false.
Just follow God’s plan
To enter the Land.
Avoid the rip off
Enough is enough.

28        Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls. Pov25:28

27        But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. 1Cor9:27

God Chose You Before You Chose Him by Rick Warren

“Dear friends, God the Father chose you long ago and knew you would become His children.” (1 Peter 1:2 LB)

God chose you long before you chose him. God took the initiative. The Good News translation puts it this way: “You were chosen according to the purpose of God.”

Why would God choose you or me to be a part of his family? Because he is a God of love; he is a God of grace. The more you understand grace, the more you’re going to be amazed by it.

God chose you. Did you deserve it? Not a chance. Do you deserve to go to Heaven? No way! Are you good enough to be in God’s family? No. He just chose you. And that’s good news.

On what basis did he choose you? First Peter 1:3 says, “For it is His boundless mercy that has given us the privilege of being born again so that now we are members of God’s own family.”

God chose you based on his mercy, not your performance. You’ll never earn it. You’ll never deserve it. You couldn’t work hard enough for it. You couldn’t be perfect enough.

It’s only because of God’s grace and mercy that the Creator of the universe says, “I want you in my family.” If that doesn’t encourage you, you’d better check your pulse.

Talk About It

  • How does understanding grace change the way you live? The way you love others?

  • Would you say that you are a merciful person? What is the evidence of this in your life?

Walking in the Light

God is lightWalking in the light

Is the way of Life.

Does not come by might

But through surrender

To the Word of Life.

Walking in the night

Will surely bring death,

And what a great plight!

Oh, what a plunder!

Darkness deals sure death.

So let’s walk in Love;

Walk in obedience

Like light from above

Then comes His presence

With fullness of Joy.

The Test of Knowing Him

3     Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.

4     He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5     But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

6     He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

7     Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.

8     Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.

9     He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.

10   He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

11   But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

Psalm 89:19

I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

C.H. Spurgeon

Why was Christ chosen out of the people? Speak, my heart, for heart-thoughts are best. Was it not that He might be able to be our brother, in the blest tie of kindred blood? Oh, what relationship there is between Christ and the believer! The believer can say, “I have a Brother in heaven; I may be poor, but I have a Brother who is rich, and is a King, and will He suffer me to want while He is on His throne? Oh, no! He loves me; He is my Brother.” Believer, wear this blessed thought, like a necklace of diamonds, around the neck of thy memory; put it, as a golden ring, on the finger of recollection, and use it as the King’s own seal, stamping the petitions of thy faith with confidence of success. He is a brother born for adversity, treat Him as such. Christ was also chosen out of the people that He might know our wants and sympathize with us. “He was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin.” In all our sorrows we have His sympathy. Temptation, pain, disappointment, weakness, weariness, poverty-He knows them all, for He has felt all. Remember this, Christian, and let it comfort thee. However difficult and painful thy road, it is marked by the footsteps of thy Saviour; and even when thou reachest the dark valley of the shadow of death, and the deep waters of the swelling Jordan, thou wilt find His footprints there. In all places whithersoever we go, He has been our forerunner; each burden we have to carry, has once been laid on the shoulders of Immanuel.

“His way was much rougher and darker than mine

Did Christ, my Lord, suffer, and shall I repine?”

Take courage! Royal feet have left a blood-red track upon the road, and consecrated the thorny path for ever.

I am with You always
