Business Bread and Butter(1): Sacrifice (by Fenny West)

Sacrifice   and Your  Business

17        And whatever you do in word or deed,   do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father   through Him. Col3:17

Your business venture and adventure, ministry and assignments will test you; make demands on you. You must be prepared to make sacrifices, invest yourself-time and energy- in it, for it to succeed.  If you cannot invest in yourself, no one will invest in you. That is why sponsors or venture capitalist always want to know how much you are willing to invest in your business. They know that it is when you have much at stake that you cannot just walk away at the sight of the first or second hurdle, obstacle, debacle, wind, storm or fire. If you suffer in it then you will also reign in it. Have a good work/life balance.

Whatever you do, do it to the glory of God. Aim to be the best, give the best, regardless of tests and even pests.

This is not to say that it consumes you. God must take first place in your life. He is the Dream-Giver and a dream outside of Him is a mirage, nightmare. Get direction, inspiration and instruction from Him- the Holy Spirit; pray without ceasing. He is the bastion of wisdom galore. He makes the impossible possible. With Him all things are possible.  He will give you winning ideas.

Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

19   “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;

20   but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

21        For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Matt6: 19-21,33

33   But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Rom8:16, Ps32:8, Prov3:5-6, Isa30:21, John15:5,

21        Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ” This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.Isa30:21

5     Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;

6     In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.Prov3:5-6

8     I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

Ps32:8

14   For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Rom8:14

If you fall, it is not the end of the road . It does not make you a failure. Get up and go again.

Thosmas Edison made 10000 unsuccessful attempts before succeeding in making the light bulb.

When interviewed, he was asked, ’How come you failed so many times and did not give up. His response was ‘I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
Thomas A. Edison

That is the spirit of a winner. Your business idea may be half- baked initially, but as the months roll by, as the storms and fire come to test it, you will have an opportunity to revise, rework, and fine –tune it, and so will your business plan. But you must have a plan all the same, to show you where you’re going so that you know when you have arrived; so that you know what you are doing wrong. When you fail or falter, tell yourself ’I am finding out how not to do it.’ You can learn more from your failure than your success, only if you are willing to inspect and prospect the failure. Remember: ‘If you have no plan, you plan to fail.’

 You must be prepared to discipline yourself- be business-like, work- not just hard-but smart; be prepared to learn new things, form good habits and relationships that will move you further and higher. You must humble yourself and learn from others who have gone ahead of you, without being intimidated by their skills, knowledge or expertise. You must be prepared and not afraid to make decisions and take responsibility for the outcome. Avoid pointing of the finger- blaming others. Be resolute and stand your ground. You must be proactive and be ready to admit when you have made bad choices and be prepare to make amends change and do it better. You must think of how to improve all the time. Never think you have arrived. Treat people with respect, courtesy, dignity. Remember : Word of mouth is the greatest marketing tool. Remember, If you are good, your reputation will go viral and you will be in demand. If you are not, you will shut the door against yourself fast and you will be your  own greatest enemy. Always aim to leave a lasting good impression of yourself. That is how you glorify your owner and Maker- Giver of the dream.

 be the best
