God does nothing without the Holy Spirit. He was at the beginning during creation. He moved over the waters when there was deep darkness and chaos and God said let there be light and there was light. Through Him the heavens and the earth and the galaxies were made. through Him all vegetation and every living thing was made.

The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

Jesus did no miracles until He fasted and prayed for forty days and returned in the power of the Spirit. on the day He was baptised, the heavens opened and He descended on Jesus and the Father Spoke, ” This is my Son in Whom I am well-pleased. “

Before Jesus started His ministry in earnest, He went into the temple and took the scroll and read, “

18 ” The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. Luke4:18-20

After God formed man, he was still life-less until He breathed on him the breath of life. That was the Holy Spirit. And man became a living soul.

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Gen2:7

At such a time as this, we need the Holy Spirit more than ever before to guide us, instruct us as to what to do because He knows everything. 

10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 1Cor 2:10-12

Apart from divine direction, the Holy Spirit gives us many benefits:

Without Him no one can be born again. 

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:6-8

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. Rom 8:9

On the Day of Pentecost He came to live inside the believer and to remain forever. Jesus is the Baptiser in the Holy Spirit. After being born again the a need to be baptised in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. that is how you build yourself up in the spirit apart from studying and mediating on the Word.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4

31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:31

Ignorance of the scriptures can keep us from being baptised in the Holy Spirit.

6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge,..Hosea 4:6

When Paul went to Ephesus, he met believer who did not know anything about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and he laid hands on them and prayed for them and they received the Holy Spirit.

“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”
3 And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”
4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. Acts19:2-6

The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin.

8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: John 16:8

He also gives us the advantage in life.

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. John 16:7

He shows us things that are freely our in Christ.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 1Cor2:12

He enables us to speak in tongues to energise ourselves and to get revelation knowledge.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4

The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.
45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,
47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” Acts 10:44-47

Paul wrote 13 best seller of all time and his strength in the Lord and the exploits he did were because of the Holy Spirit.

18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; 1 Cor 14:18 

He is the Comfort and Strengthener and Standby. He comforts us and kicks in like a generator when we are weak.

16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, Eph 3:16

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Cor 1:3-4

31 Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied. Acts 9:31

He shows us things to come, reminds us things the Our Lord has told us in times past in our daily walk with Him.

13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come John 16:13

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 14:26

We need to know Him personally. He is a Divine Person. He speaks, leads, comforts, teaches, remind, apart from doing the miraculous. he is the Author of the Holy Scripture as He used men of old.

26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert.

He is God -the Spirit. He knows every thing and knows you and your future.

He helps us in our prayer life.

6 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Rom 8:26-27

20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, Jude 20

He empowers us for ministry and  witnessing.

8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8

The Holy Spirit is for every believer.

38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:38-39

Without Him we cannot live a victorious Christian life.

Let us acknowledge Him, invite and involve Him in all we do and we will be amazed at the accomplishments we will have in our lives. We will live dynamic, victorious and tremendously impacting Christian live to the glory of God.
