Living above Fear ( by Fenny West)

Living above Fear

There has never been any time in my life when I have seen nations in the grip of fear as it is today, because of the Corona Virus- CONVID-19.

Many measures have been introduced and even enforced such as travel bans, social distancing, working from home, self-isolation, and advice to those mostly at risk to avoid contact with others for at least 12 weeks.

Because of the crisis of not knowing when it will end, many have resorted to panic buying and some supermarkets’ shelves have been cleared of certain household items like toilet roll, disinfectants, tinned food etc.

Whereas it is wise to take some precautionary measures in view of this pandemic, we need to put things into perspective.  We must not allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by CONVID-19. We must face it with courage and rise above it by helping each other when we can.

I am encouraged by some people who have set up Facebook groups in order to help those in need and vulnerable. There are others trying to find a solution to the virus by developing and testing vaccines. This is the attitude we should all have. We need to ask ourselves what we can do to ameliorate or reduce the situation. Every little helps. We cannot run and hide.

Apart from CONVID-19, there are many situations in life that can evoke fear.

What does the word of God say about fear?

Let us find out and fortify ourselves against the ravages of fear.  Fear can cause you to make mistakes, causes confusion, makes you arrogate to yourself what is not yours at the initial sign of a cough or temperature rise because of what you have heard about the early signs of the disease.

This is a time to hold fast to what God said in His word.

9              Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Josh1:9

10           Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isa41:10

” Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.

2      When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.

Isa43:1-2

Be confident about whom you belong to and Whom you serve.

4      Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5      You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

6      Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

Israel faced such a crisis as they left Egypt, on their way to the Promised land. Despite being protected from the ten plagues, they forgot the protective power of God in the midst of a crisis. They saw the acts of God but did not know His ways and so they panicked and wanted to eat Moses alive because of fear.

Yet, despite the Red Sea ahead of them and the Egyptian army behind them, God wanted them to go forward.

I believe that is what God wants us to do at this time. Put your trust in God and move forward. Press on for the mark of the prize of the high-calling. Be not afraid neither be you dismayed. Your life is hidden in Christ in God. No weapon fashioned against you shall prosper. When the enemy comes like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will raise a standard against him. Christ is your life. In Him you live move and have your very being. God is your Refuge and your strength, He is the stronghold of your life.

Say like the psalmist:

1      The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

2      When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.

3      Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident.

5      For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.

6      And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD. Ps27:1-6

12   Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies.

Ps 60:12

Say to yourself:

1      God is our ( my ) refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

2      Therefore we ( I )will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3      Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah

4      There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.

5      God is in the midst of her, she ( I) shall not be moved; God shall help her ( me), just at the break of dawn.

6      The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

7      The LORD of hosts is with us ( me); The God of Jacob is our  ( my) refuge. Selah

Pray this Psalm and personalise it:

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2      I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

3      Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence.

4      He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

5      You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,

6      Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7      A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.

8      Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.

9      Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place,

10   No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

11   For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.

12   In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

13   You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

14   “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

15   He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.

16   With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”

Because I dwell in the secret place of the Most High, I abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Therefore no harm will befall me. No disaster will come near my body which is the temple of God.

I say confidently that God is my refuge and my fortress and in Him will I trust.

Surely, He will deliver me from the snare of CONVID-19 or any other virus or perilous pestilence. He covers me with His feathers  and under His wings I find refuge.

His truth is my shield and my buckler.

I will not be afraid of the terror by night or the arrow that flies by day or the destruction that walks in darkness or the plague that parades at mid-day.

A thousand may fall at my right hand, ten thousand at my side, but the evil will not come near me. I am divine territory and belong to the Most High. I have been purchased with a great price. Christ in me is my hope of glory.

I have authority over every disease or virus in the name of Jesus.  No disease shall alight on the temple of the most High, in Jesus’ name. The righteous are as bold as the lion. Therefore I fear no evil. Perfect love cast away all fear. God has not given me a spirit of fear but that of love, power and sound mind.

I refuse to be anxious about anything but in everything , by prayer and petition I have made my request known to God and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding mounts guard over my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus.

God’s word to me is:

‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

16           Tomorrow go down against them.

Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.”

2 Chro 20:15-16

Say to yourself: my testimony shall be like that of Judah who were surrounded by their enemies and outnumbered many times:  God gave them a prophetic word, Protection and prosperity as shown below:

Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”

21   And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: ” Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever.”

22   Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

23   For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

24   So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped.

25   When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, they found among them an abundance of valuables on the dead bodies, and precious jewelry, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days gathering the spoil because there was so much.

This will be my portion too, in Jesus’ name.

Now I pray that the Lord will open your eyes to see that there are more with you than are against you.

The blood of Jesus speaks for you concerning CORONA or any other challenge.

Daniels’ friends faced a life-threatening decree but they defied it because they trusted in their God. They were thrown into the fiery burning furnace that had been heated seven times hotter than usual. The furnace was so hot that it licked up and killed those who threw them in. However, because Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego trusted in their God, He did not forsake them. The fire set them free to fulfil vision. The challenge gave God the opportunity to send His Son to join them and they were not hurt. In the end, what was designed to kill them brought about the glorification of the name of their God and their promotion. ( Dan3)

The same happened to Daniel later on. His enemies conspire and instigated the King to sign a decree precluding anyone from praying to their God. Daniel was not afraid and continued to pray as usual.  He was thrown into the lion’s den and here again, God protected him and promoted him and His name was glorified. ( Dan6)

So be bold and strong. Put on the whole armour of God, especially in these times of crisis, world-wide.  You are the light of the world and the salt of the earth and apple of God’s eyes. Know that His presence in you makes a difference. Refuse to panic. God is in you and with you and for you. If God is for you, who can be against you?

Say to yourself:

37   Yet in all these things we are  ( I am) more than conquerors through Him who loved us ( me).

38   For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,

39           nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us ( me) from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our ( my )  Lord.

Fix your eyes on Jesus- the Author and Finisher of your faith. Fear not. Have faith in God. The Just shall live by faith. Cast not away your confidence. We walk by faith and not by sight. See angelic hosts on assignment on your behalf. Tell your body to hear and respond to the Word of God.

Stand Still and see the salvation of the Lord!
