The Lord is My Portion ( by C. H. Spurgeon )

The Lord is my portion, saith my soul.”
Lamentations 3:24

It is not “The Lord is partly my portion,” nor “The Lord is in my portion”; but he himself makes up the sum total of my soul’s inheritance. Within the circumference of that circle lies all that we possess or desire. The Lord is my portion. Not his grace merely, nor his love, nor his covenant, but Jehovah himself. He has chosen us for his portion, and we have chosen him for ours. It is true that the Lord must first choose our inheritance for us, or else we shall never choose it for ourselves; but if we are really called according to the purpose of electing love, we can sing–

“Lov’d of my God for him again

With love intense I burn;

Chosen of him ere time began,

I choose him in return.”

The Lord is our all-sufficient portion. God fills himself; and if God is all-sufficient in himself, he must be all- sufficient for us. It is not easy to satisfy man’s desires. When he dreams that he is satisfied, anon he wakes to the perception that there is somewhat yet beyond, and straightway the horse-leech in his heart cries, “Give, give.” But all that we can wish for is to be found in our divine portion, so that we ask, “Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.” Well may we “delight ourselves in the Lord” who makes us to drink of the river of his pleasures. Our faith stretches her wings and mounts like an eagle into the heaven of divine love as to her proper dwelling-place. “The lines have fallen to us in pleasant places; yea, we have a goodly heritage.” Let us rejoice in the Lord always; let us show to the world that we are a happy and a blessed people, and thus induce them to exclaim, “We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”

That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus (Philemon 1:6).

It is essential we acknowledge the good things God has deposited in us and done for us and is doing for us in Christ, regardless of how we feel or thing or what people say or think about us. As we discover these eternal realities and begin to reinforce, proclaim them, embrace them, act as if they are true and thank God for them, they will begin to be made manifest in our lives.

Looking through the scriptures you will find what we are in Him, by Him and through Him. Feed your spirit and mind on them and you will grow in grace and faith and not only knowledge but wisdom

So what are the good things in me?

Acknowledging the Good Things in me, for me and about me:

I am fearfully and wonderfully made; a masterpiece, apple of God’s eyes, the redeemed of the Lord. I am blessed with every spiritual blessing, blessed to be a blessing. I am God’s treasured possession. Old things have passed away and all things have become new. The boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places for me and I have a goodly and godly heritage. I have been given the treasures of darkness and hidden riches in secret places. I have been bestowed God’s exceedingly great and precious promises that by these I should be a partaker of the divine nature.

(2Cor5:17, 2Pet1:3-4, Ps16:6) God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory. He orders my steps and has gone before be to make every crooked path straight. No weapon fashioned against me prospers. And when the enemy comes like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will raise a standard against him. There is therefore now no more condemnation on me. I am a winner, an overcomer- the head and not the tail, blessed in my going out and in my coming in. God chose me and loves me with a great love-everlasting love. He loves me like He loves Jesus. (Phil4:19, RO8:1, Eph1:3,4,6, Deut28:1-14, Ps103:11-12, 1Jn5:4,1Jn4:4,Isa54:17, Isa59:19,Isa43:1-3)) He has given be His Holy Spirit to be my Comforter, Standby, Strengthener, Teacher, Anointing, Guide, Intercessor and Advocate and He gives me the advantage and seals me, separates me, anoints me for service. (Isa10:27, Jn16:7,13, Jn14:26) Christ has been made to me: wisdom, sanctification, redemption and righteousness. God has given me His whole armour to don and stand in the evil day. I have: The Helmet of salvation, Shoes of the Gospel, Belt of Truth round my waist,          The Shield of faith, The breastplate of righteousness

The Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. ( Eph6:10-17,1Cor1:30, 2Cor5:21)

He has given His angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways. They will lift me up in their hands so I will not dash my foot against the stone.( P91:10, Ps34:7)

God is my refuge and my ever present help in trouble. He fights my battles. He never leaves me nor forsakes me. He is always by my side. He has written my name in the Book of life. I have Zoe-the God- kind of life. ( Ps46, Mtt28:20) He has sent His word to heal me. I am healed of all diseases; free from every encumbrance and limitation. I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me. He has forgiven all my sins and buried them in His bottomless sea. He redeemed my life from destruction, crowned my life with love and compassion, satisfies my mouth with good things and renews my youth like the eagle’s. ( (Ps107:20, Phil4:13 Ps103:1-5, Isa40:31) He made me a lender and not a borrower. Those who come against me in one way, flee in seven ways. He is my light and my salvation and I have no fear. He has given me a spirit of love, power, boldness and sound mind. (2Tim1:7, Prov28:1, Acts4, 5, 7, 8, 16, 20, 28) He has a great plan, purpose and dream  for me. His plan is to give me a future filled with hope. He is my Shield, Shelter, my song, my strength, my Fortress and the Horn of my salvation, Love and Lover of my soul. ( Ps18:1-3, Duet28:1-14) He made me a co-worker with Him, His ambassador, gave me a ministry of reconciliation, called me into the household of faith, gave me the God-kind of faith. Christ in me is my hope of glory. I am of the chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a living stone, of the holy nation, one belonging to God, called out of darkness into His marvellous light. He made me a light of the world, the salt of the earth and a city on a hill, show forth His glory. (1Cor3:9, Matt5:13-15)

He called me, empowered me, gave me dominion to subdue and have mastery in all I do. He gave me wisdom of the kingdom of God to excel and be His standard bearer. He called and empowered me to prosper in my spirit, soul and body.(Gen1:26,28 3Jn2) He gave me hope even against hope and predestined me to be conformed into His image and all things work together for my good ( Ro4:17, 18, 8:28-29). His mind is full of me( Ps8). He made me an heir of God and joint-heir with Christ. He shed His love abroad in my heart by His Spirit. He purchased me with a great price-His precious blood. I am accepted in the beloved. I am more than a conqueror. Jesus is my peace and my rest and assurance. Nothing shall separate me from the love of Christ, not persecution, or distress, not famine, not tribulation, not nakedness, peril or sword; not death nor life, nor principalities nor powers, angels, threats, things present or things to come, nor height nor depth.. nothing shall be to separate me from the love of Christ.(Eph2:14,Rom8:,17,31,32,35,36,-39) I am born of God, born from above have overcome. There is more to me than meets the eyes. Jesus is my Saviour, Advocate, Ransom, Mediator, Intercessor, Healer, Redeemer, Surety and Friend.( 1Pet1:23, Henb7:25, Prov18:24)

The Lord is my Shepherd and I do not want. He prepares a banquet for me in the presence of my enemies and anoints my head with oil. Goodness and mercy follow me all the days of my life. Ps23:1,:4

I was crucified with Christ and raised up to sit with Him in heavenly places, far above principalities and power and thrones and names and dominions.( EPh2:5)Gal2:20)

I have a New Covenant established on better promises. ( Heb8:6)

Boundless Inheritance

Boundless Inheritance

In Christ- our inheritance

C.H.Spurgeon

Ephesians 1:11

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance.

When Jesus gave Himself for us, He gave us all the rights and privileges which went with Himself; so that now, although as eternal God, He has essential rights to which no creature may venture to pretend, yet as Jesus, the Mediator, the federal Head of the covenant of grace, He has no heritage apart from us. All the glorious consequences of His obedience unto death are the joint riches of all who are in Him, and on whose behalf He accomplished the divine will. See, He enters into glory, but not for Himself alone, for it is written, “Whither the Forerunner is for us entered.” Heb. 6:20. Does He stand in the presence of God?-“He appears in the presence of God for us.” Heb. 9:24.

Consider this, believer. You have no right to heaven in yourself: your right lies in Christ. If you are pardoned, it is through His blood; if you are justified, it is through His righteousness; if you are sanctified, it is because He is made of God unto you sanctification; if you shall be kept from falling, it will be because you are preserved in Christ Jesus; and if you are perfected at the last, it will be because you are complete in Him. Thus Jesus is magnified-for all is in Him and by Him; thus the inheritance is made certain to us-for it is obtained in Him; thus each blessing is the sweeter, and even heaven itself the brighter, because it is Jesus our Beloved “in whom” we have obtained all.

Where is the man who shall estimate our divine portion? Weigh the riches of Christ in scales, and His treasure in balances, and then think to count the treasures which belong to the saints. Reach the bottom of Christ’s sea of joy, and then hope to understand the bliss which God hath prepared for them that love Him. Overleap the boundaries of Christ’s possessions, and then dream of a limit to the fair inheritance of the elect. “All things are yours, for ye are Christ’s and Christ is God’s.”
