Marvellous Mother ( by Fenny West)
The Day of Laughter Comes… ( by Fenny West)
The Day of Laughter
The Day of laughter
Comes to those who trust God;
those who hold on to His Word
They may laugh last but they laugh best
Suddenly, their table is turned for the better
Suddenly the testimony comes after the test.
The Day of laughter
Comes to those who have been written off; past their sell-by date;
Those told by the doctor: ‘Go home. No hope.’
Go and prepare yourself for death.’
Suddenly, there is a reprieve, remission, retreat,
Resurgence, revival, and resurrection.
Just like it happened to Hezekiah when God gave him15 more years
2Ki20:6 I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.'”
Just like it happened to Zachariah when John the Baptist was born.
‘Elisabeth’s son was born. Her friends and family were happy. They thought that the baby should have the same name as his father, Zacharias. But Elisabeth
said that his name should be John. Everyone was surprised.’
Just like it happened to Hannah when her anguish turned into joy at the birth of Samuel.
Rebekah in joy – double for her trouble
Rachel’s Joy when Joseph was born
Jacob’s Joy and laughter when he suddenly heard that Joseph was still alive and a PM
Just like it happened to Joseph When he went from prison to the palace;
From prisoner to Prime Minister within 24 hours;
Esau kissed Jacob
Just like Jacob who was expecting the worst from his cheated brother ( Esau) but rather received a kiss and pardon.
Just like it happened to Job When his fortune was restored
Just like it happened to Mephibosheth, who was summoned to the palace from his dark, dingy hideout
To the king’s palace where he ate on the king’s table as his sons.
Just like it happened to Abraham and Sarah whom God gave laughter- Isaac- in their old age.
Just like it happened to Israel- the day they left Egypt, plundering the Egyptians and finding freedom after over 400 years of captivity.
Just like Jabez, who had been dogged with repeated calamity was suddenly greeted with favour, prosperity, protection and an enlarged coast.
Like Job who had lost everything, going from riches to rags, receiving restoration that was superabundant and mind-blowing.
Just like the day Lazarus was raised back to life- the disaster turned into laughter.
The Day Jesus was born
like the day Jesus was raised back to life, there was great joy in Jerusalem and the world over, even in heaven.
Just like the day there was a sudden revival and a collapsed economy and starving people bounced back and prices fell to ridiculous levels and there was plenty to eat. End of famine in the Land.
Just like the day the decree was signed giving the Jews freedom from those who wanted them exterminated. The day of laughter came to Israel when the state was created after many years of statelessness.
Yes, this day of laughter does come to those who keep their eyes on Jesus, regardless of the dark times they pass through. Yea though they walk through the valley of the shadow of death, they need not fear any evil because the Lord is with them. And if God be for them who can be against them?
He is working everything together for their good.
Captivity led captive
Psalms 126: A Joyful Return to Zion A Song of Ascents.
1 When the LORD brought back the captivity of Zion, We were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, ” The LORD has done great things for them.”
3 The LORD has done great things for us, And we are glad.
4 Bring back our captivity, O LORD, As the streams in the South.
5 Those who sow in tears Shall reap in joy.
6 He who continually goes forth weeping, Bearing seed for sowing, Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, Bringing his sheaves with him.
God Gives the Greatest Reward ( by C.H. Spurgeon)
God Gives Great Rewards
“Call the labourers, and give them their hire.”
Matthew 20:8
God is a good paymaster; he pays his servants while at work as well as when they have done it; and one of his payments is this: an easy conscience. If you have spoken faithfully of Jesus to one person, when you go to bed at night you feel happy in thinking, “I have this day discharged my conscience of that man’s blood.” There is a great comfort in doing something for Jesus. Oh, what a happiness to place jewels in his crown, and give him to see of the travail of his soul! There is also very great reward in watching the first buddings of conviction in a soul! To say of that girl in the class, “She is tender of heart, I do hope that there is the Lord’s work within.” To go home and pray over that boy, who said something in the afternoon which made you think he must know more of divine truth than you had feared! Oh, the joy of hope! But as for the joy of success! it is unspeakable. This joy, overwhelming as it is, is a hungry thing–you pine for more of it. To be a soul-winner is the happiest thing in the world. With every soul you bring to Christ, you get a new heaven upon earth. But who can conceive the bliss which awaits us above! Oh, how sweet is that sentence, “Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord!” Do you know what the joy of Christ is over a saved sinner? This is the very joy which we are to possess in heaven. Yes, when he mounts the throne, you shall mount with him. When the heavens ring with “Well done, well done,” you shall partake in the reward; you have toiled with him, you have suffered with him, you shall now reign with him; you have sown with him, you shall reap with him; your face was covered with sweat like his, and your soul was grieved for the sins of men as his soul was, now shall your face be bright with heaven’s splendour as is his countenance, and now shall your soul be filled with beatific joys even as his soul is.

Why it has been published
God has given me the opportunity to make a contribution to the Body of Christ. It is a great privilege. When you think of the millions of songs composed over the centuries in Christendom, you would wonder if we need more songs. But God always gives us fresh manna regardless of what has been before. If we are open to Him, He will give us New Mercies, New Songs to sing to the King. A few of theses compositions over the years are set forth here. Some of them have been recorded and on CDs, some others have been recorded at home.
This book is a rich resource-base for songwriters, instrumentalist looking for fresh material, worship leaders, preachers and teachers and Christians in general and for devotional purposes.
Some of the songs have been tested in churches and small group settings with huge success. Some of the songs have also been recorded and distributed.
My intended reader is the Christian who wants to grow in Christ regardless of their past achievements or failures, pastors and teachers who have a spirit of excellence and scholarship and want a handy poetic and biblical resource on varied song-themes- any one who wants a fitting song for a special occasion; also Christian singers and rappers who want a good word-based lyric for recording or for use on outreach.

Over the years since being a Christian, I have undertaken various formal and in-house Bible courses, one of which led to the award of a Diploma in Christian Ministry. I have also personally developed my prose, song-writing and poetry skills and use the Bible as my key resource in my writings. The works of C.H. Spurgeon, Matthews Henry and John Bunyan have had a profound influence on writing.
With regards to songwriting, Graham Kendrick, Ian Whyte and Don Francisco, have been very influential. Ian Whyte introduced me into setting the Psalms to music.

We Will Be Glad and Rejoice In You
Charles H. Spurgeon
“We will be glad and rejoice in thee.”
Song of Solomon 1:4
We will be glad and rejoice in thee. We will not open the gates of the year to the dolorous notes of the sackbut, but to the sweet strains of the harp of joy, and the high sounding cymbals of gladness. “O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise unto the rock of our salvation.”
We, the called and faithful and chosen, we will drive away our griefs, and set up our banners of confidence in the name of God.Let others lament over their troubles, we who have the sweetening tree to cast into Marah’s bitter pool, with joy will magnify the Lord. Eternal Spirit, our effectual Comforter, we who are the temples in which thou dwellest, will never cease from adoring and blessing the name of Jesus. We will, we are resolved about it, Jesus must have the crown of our heart’s delight; we will not dishonour our Bridegroom by mourning in his presence. We are ordained to be the minstrels of the skies, let us rehearse our everlasting anthem before we sing it in the halls of the New Jerusalem.
We will be glad and rejoice: two words with one sense, double joy, blessedness upon blessedness.Need there be any limit to our rejoicing in the Lord even now? Do not men of grace find their Lord to be camphire and spikenard, calamus and cinnamon even now, and what better fragrance have they in heaven itself? We will be glad and rejoice in Thee. That last word is the meat in the dish, the kernel of the nut, the soul of the text. What heavens are laid up in Jesus! What rivers of infinite bliss have their source, aye, and every drop of their fulness in him! Since, O sweet
Lord Jesus, thou art the present portion of thy people, favour us this year with such a sense of thy preciousness, that from its first to its last day we may be glad and rejoice in thee.
Let January open with joy in the Lord, and December close with gladness in Jesus.
The Outcast Shall Be Sought After (Fenny West)
The outcast shall be sought after
And the forgotten remembered
The rejected shall be accepted
And even feted, celebrated.
For the Lord shall bring back the captives
And make a road in the wilderness
Like in the Regev desert, springs shall flow
A river shall burst forth to His glory.
It will be said among the nations:
‘See what wonders the Lord has done’
Many will see acknowledge and believe
That Jesus Christ is the same always.
