When it All Began ( by Fenny West)

When it all began

I had an audience

Yes, I had a fan

With a name – Lawrence

I had to pretend there were more

So I gave it the best I could

Hoping for tomorrow’s open door.

Now the decades have come and gone

I am still practising, hoping and waiting

For the Day of the Lord to come.

I am still pressing on, trusting, praying

God is not a man that He should lie

Nor the son of man that He should repent

And so there no need to give up or sigh

I will keep holding on to the Word. I will not relent.

It all began in Ireland

That land of Saints and scholars

I was almost a celebrity in that land

Back then the ‘black babies were few

And I was one of them- a rare breed.

Now everything has changed

Black babies are everywhere.
