You Are Blessed to Be a Blessing
Every good and perfect gift comes from above, comes from our Father of Lights.
Being blessed to be a Blessing is God’s plan, purpose, dream, desire, delight and will for us. We are blessed to be a blessing.
Abraham was blessed to be a Blessing When Abraham was called, was told: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Gen12:2
He was blessed to be a blessing. For a start, his blessing rubbed off Lot (his nephew) who was associated with him. Our blessings should rub off on others around us. We are empowered to empower others. We are God’s emissaries, His ambassadors, representatives, His hands and feet. And so we need to be very conscious that our blessing is not just for ourselves. We are trustees, stewards and one of the ways we show our stewardship is not increasing it directly but increasing it indirectly by empowering others to be blessed to bless others and let the cycle continue unabated.
We are to be rivers-not dams
We are to give the lives of others a meaning. That is why Jesus called us the salt of the earth, the light of the world and the city on a hill that cannot be hidden (Matt5:14-16). This was why He said we should let our light so shine, that men will see our good works and glorify our father in heaven.
We are to be givers, because it is more blessed to give than to receive. Our love should be evidenced in our willingness to give-not just finances but time, empathy and compassion. That is practical love. And love never fails and it is the greatest. (1Cor13)
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Gal6:9
Often times we will encounter people who will rub us off the wrong way-repay us evil for the good we have done to them. That can be discouraging. But we must rise up above it and keep doing what God said, and our blessing will continue unabated. We must avoid retaliating because it will stop our blessing. We must see it as a ploy of the enemy to stop our blessing and rise above it.
God sees. God remembers and God rewards, and handsomely too. Whatever you do is a seed sown. So keep sowing good seeds. They will surely sprout and become trees. These trees will bear fruit that will remain; fruit that will be much. The trees will become forests and bear fruit also and your memory will remain.
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Col3:17
10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. Heb6:10
And Paul encouraged us: 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if He thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Ro12:20-21
This was why Jesus said, “Love your enemies.”
11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matt5:11-12
We are in a spiritual warfare and the enemy of your soul knows that being a blessing will keep you being blessed continually and so he will try to use someone to make you offended to stop you giving or stop you being a blessing. Be wise. Do not let him. In fact, increase the good you do rather than reduce it or stop it. That is how you win. That is how you soar like an eagle. You will be like a well-watered garden that never runs dry. You will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in due season. And whatever you do shall prosper.
This is what Bill Gate is all about. After making his name and amassing wealth through his computer technological acumen, he is now using his wealth to help others through the Bill Gate Foundations.
That is God’s dream for me and for you-being blessed to be a blessing. The Dead Sea is dead because it takes without giving. Don’t be a dead sea.
24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. Prov11:24
So scatter, share, remain generous, remain liberal; give and it shall be given back to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.Luke6:38
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, 30 But He shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. Mark10:29-30
Some people sacrifice-give their lives-by leaving the comfort of their homes and immediate family and answer the call to preach the gospel in foreign lands under very difficult circumstances. They are being a blessing-denying themselves and making themselves available to be used of the Lord to bless others. They are fulfilled in what they do, despite the hardships they face. As the scripture says, their labour is not in vain. They will be rewarded even here on earth, apart from their reward in heaven. God is not a man that He should lie. His word shall not fall to the ground.
In Acts 2 and 4 the early Christians demonstrated this liberality and God multiplied what they had such that everyone’s needs were met. Great grace was evidenced among them because they were generous.
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Acts2:44,45,47
So we see why God moved mightily in the early church so much so that there were signs and wonders, miracles galore and there was a great harvest of souls and they had favour with the people. The secret was their humility, hospitality, flexibility, and generosity.
Their love was tangible for all to see. And that love triggered the mighty move of God.
It can happen in your life and my life and in your church and my church if we go back to basics of being open to God and praying-not just for God to bless us but to use us to bless others. We will begin to see what they saw-signs and wonders and miracles.
God will provide for us, bless our business to expand; and prosperity, healing, deliverance, healthy marriages, barren wombs opening will be common. Those laid off from their jobs will have their own businesses and becoming employers.
Esther was blessed to be a blessing
Esther was a Jew in a foreign land who was catapulted into the palace when a vacancy arose for the position of a queen. It was a sudden change of status. But God has a purpose in her promotion. He had seen the problem of Harman hating the Jews and plotting to exterminate them and she was the one strategically placed to turn the tide in favour of the people of God. She was blessed to be a blessing. And Mordecai was on hand to remind her of her reason for being; her purpose in life. She saw the light and did what she was called to do despite the risk involved. God honored her commitment, faith and selflessness and used her to save His people.
Nehemiah was blessed to be a blessing
Nehemiah was in a lucrative job, even as a King’s cup-bearer before God burdened him about the broken down walls of Jerusalem. He was willing to make sacrifices to help his people. With that willingness to be used to bless his people, God gave him favour with the King who granted him:
